Это было летом 1944 года. Ранним утром 32-я отдельная лыжная бригада совершала передислокацию своих частей по лесному, труднодоступному массиву южной Карелии на подступах к г. Питкяранта. После успешного проведения Свирской операции, сорвавшей замысел противника о создании единого финско-немецкого фронта, бригада во взаимодействии с другими частями Карельского и Ленинградского фронтов продолжала наступательные бой вдоль побережья Ладожского озера по направлению к западной границе нашей Родины.

Поздним вечером 4 июля командир дивизии, ознакомив командиров полков и спецподразделений с обстановкой, поставил перед ними конкретные задачи- 1063-й стрелковый полк должен был наступать на Питкяранту вдоль шоссе, левее - 1065-й полк. 1061-й полк на первом этапе должен был двигаться во втором эшелоне 555-и саперный батальон обеспечивает движение основных сил, а одна его рота вместе с другими инженерными подразделениями наводит переправу на реке Тулемаёки чтобы в короткие сроки пропустить через нее артиллерию и самоходные орудия, танки и другую технику.

- Олег Владимирович, читая имеющиеся исторические труды на эту тему, иной раз приходишь к мысли, что после нашего июньско-июльского наступления 1944 года, выхода к Питкяранте, Лоймоле, государственной границе как-то вдруг сразу наступает перемирие с Финляндией. А куда делись еще два месяца боевых действий, непонятно!

- Начнем с того, чем закончили в предыдущей беседе, - линии У , к которой 10 - 11 июля вышли наши войска. Что она собой представляла?
